want to know more about cobalt

We look after everybody’s stuff as carefully as we can… BUT we are a very small team and it can be a struggle to get to all phone calls and emails about it. If you have lost something it will be put in our lost property box and kept at the reception in the venue for a month. Please come down the next time we are open and ask a member of staff to check if we have your item. There is nobody in on a Sunday to take calls, reply to emails or to answer the door.

Please see the Your Events section for a comprehensive answer to this question.

Yes, in between our Cobalt ‘Seasons’ and on Sundays we can offer private hire opportunities. If you have an enquiry, please get in touch. You can also check out our events section for more details.

Our team is very small but we like to make space for the right people wherever we can. We are also happy to work with people with the right attitude but no formal experience. Please email us your CV with an introduction to who you are and why you would like to work at Cobalt.

We are always looking for musicians to programme and we’re happy to hear from anyone who would like to play at Cobalt. Our budgets are very modest, but we do always pay, and we also look after musicians carefully with homecooked food and general good care. We programme a long way in advance (generally at least 6 months) so please give us plenty of warning of tours etc.  Our genres are very broad, but we tend to stay away from metal, rock, indie so if you play these you might be better suited to other venues in the city.

Please see the Your Events section for a more comprehensive answer to this question.

We are a non for profit social enterprise simply because we choose to prioritise culture and community over private gain, which is just as well because neither make money anyway! Our aim is to operate as a self-sustaining business able to support culture and community with aspects such as club nights, private hires and co-working. Every membership, ticket and drink you buy helps to support everything that we do here, and we are so grateful for your support.

This really depends on the nature of the event, there will be an age guide on the event but if you’re unsure please send us an email.

Our philosophy is to offer a good quota of free and pay as you feel events, and wherever we have ticketed events run by Cobalt we aim to keep our average ticket price around £8 (which on Thursday nights includes dinner as well as the gig). We work VERY hard to be affordable and as such we can’t afford to make further discounts. If you are really struggling to meet these prices, please email us for a discussion – maybe you could swap some time for a ticket!

At the moment we are not well resourced enough to formally manage volunteer opportunities, but if you truly want to get involved and aren’t fussy about jobs please do email us with your rough availability and skillset and we will see what’s possible. You might also want to consider being a part of our steering group.
