Mark Collett

Mark Collett is a founder and director of Cobalt, director at Ernest, and a designer maker producing fine furniture for private and commercial clients.

In his early twenties, after a brief time on a theology course Mark soon moved into architectural studies, finally graduating with a degree in three dimensional design. Through his skills as a maker he has had a lifelong commitment to building and creating spaces. This has been realised in private and commercial commissions but perhaps more fundamentally in his belief in the intrinsic value of artist led, co-working spaces of which both Fusion Arts and now Cobalt are testament.

Mark has always led a very DIY life. From building his own speakers at the age of 15 to creating the ever expanding venue space at Cobalt (as well as the rest of the building), all of Mark’s making and construction skills have been self-taught, thanks in part to the advice from others he always seeks before having a go himself. His design choices are fully led by the user experience considering carefully how the space will feel and impact upon those that that use it. He includes elements that invite playfulness or reflect his love of music and partying – magical lighting and the ability to transform spaces into various modes with different lighting accents is also a key feature of Mark’s work. His DIY attitude extends to a dogged commitment to create as little waste on this planet as possible – he has been a committed recycler since before it was standard, constantly mending, fixing, and giving a new lease of life to abandoned and overlooked items.

As well as being the financial director of Cobalt he is responsible for the physical building and day to day to operations.

With his own business he is available for consultations and bespoke commissions.
