Susi Bellamy took up her studio at Cobalt back in 2014 after she graduated from her MA in Fine Art at Northumbria University with her degree show at Baltic 39 in Newcastle.
Her work is largely inspired by her passion for colour, her background as a Fashion Editor, and her time living and working in Florence, Italy. After creating her studio space at Cobalt with a shelving system to display cropped abstract paintings taken from larger pieces, her reverse fashion imagery and colour block shapes, she created a collection of textile designs which she described as ‘art for the sofa’. Her home collection is based on her abstract artwork and marbled papers and she often creates installations in the studio bringing all her genres together.
Susi is a mixed media artist and paints in acrylics and oils, creates collages of icons both modern day and from the Renaissance, as well as colour block photography and screen prints. Her love of colour led her to form the Colour Collective UK – a not-for profit organisation based in Newcastle dedicated to to the dissemination of colour information and lectures often held at both Newcastle University and Northumbria School of Art and Design.
